My two beautiful cousins have left me for a warmer locale. I can’t say I blame them—it is summer in Brazil, after all.
On the left we have Eni my father’s first cousin and somewhat of an aunt to me. Eni is fabulous with an emphasis on the fab. After her kids were grown, Eni decided to start a jewelry business and she is now a wonderful designer who runs one of the most popular shops in her area.
On the right we have Eni’s daughter, Renata. Sweeter than the sweetest, Renata is about to graduate and become an architect. She has a love for perfume, Applejacks, and Hershey’s syrup (the last two are loves she developed during her year abroad in the states).
When I was younger I always wished I had family nearby. With my family, bringing aunts and uncles and cousins together usually requires a few airplanes and/or several passports. But this visit reminded me that the miles between us just make reunions that much sweeter. My people are scattered throughout three continents, countless states, farms, and cities…at least I know it will always be an adventure.
We spent the week laughing, eating, drinking (Eni’s English is much better when she “drinks the wine” (her words, not mine)…this fact initiated an impromptu performance of The Carpenter’s “Close to You”), and SHOPPING!
I miss these two lovelies already, and that’s all there is to it.
